Twelve members of Local 79 standing together for the executive. Long-term care, shelters, parks, public health. People who still do the job.
Every call and every email gets a reply within two working days, from a named person, with the date it was received on the file.
The draft budget before it is voted on. Every expenditure over five thousand dollars. Every consultant contract beside what it was meant to deliver.
A steward who shows up, trained and recognised, at every meeting a member is called into. No member sits in that room alone.
Grievances tracked and reported back. When a petition goes in, the members who signed it find out what was done about it.
Shift and part-time members get the same contact, the same training and the same representation as everyone else paying dues.
Bargaining strength, steward support, legal defence, direct representation. Our contract expires inside this term, so what is in the account by then decides what we can hold out for.
Tap a name to read their page. Each one has a short link they can text to their own worksite.
Also on the ballot, and worth your vote. We are not running a candidate for Recording Secretary. We are backing Sofia Reno, who came within sixty five votes of that seat last time. For the fourth Unit Officer seat we are backing Anthony Fernandes. Both are standing independently.
Local 79 runs its election electronically. The ballot link is emailed to you on voting day and the window closes the same evening. Members miss it every cycle for one reason: the local has the wrong email address for them.
Check the email address the local has on file for you. Not your work address. The one you actually read.
Update it now, not on voting day. It takes a minute and it is the difference between voting and not.
On the day, look for the ballot email. Check your junk folder. It arrives in the morning.
Vote the ticket. You can vote for up to four Unit Officers and up to fourteen at large, so use every vote you have.
“I was assigned to represent a member. When I arrived, I was barred from the room.”
The reason given was that Rene Iriarte was not recognised as an official representative, because he had missed a training session he was never told about. A member sat in that meeting without the representative their union had assigned them.
Rene Iriarte · Heavy-duty cleaner, Cummer Lodge · Steward since 2022
